Chapter 7: Engagement
Jiang Yu’an and I naturally fell in love, and our engagement followed as a matter of course.
“Jiang” was actually his mother’s maiden name. After being officially recognized by his family, he made the exact same choice he had in my past life: keeping the name Jiang and adamantly refusing to take his deadbeat father’s surname, Khương.
And just like that, the dirt-poor boy transformed overnight into “Young Master Jiang.” Public opinion did a complete 180—going from “gloomy, solitary scholarship kid” to “an aloof, mysterious ice-king deity.”
To the outside world, he was the picture of success—a born-with-a-silver-spoon, domineering CEO type. But behind closed doors, when it was just the two of us at home…
I was straddling his waist, in full “devoted wife” mode, checking over his university assignments. Seeing he’d done a great job, I cupped his face and planted a loud, rewarding kiss on his lips before shifting positions to curl up snugly in his lap.
“Hubby,” I poked his chest gently. “When did you actually give me the green light?”
Resting his chin on the crown of my head, he rubbed softly against my hair. “Love at first sight.”
I racked my brain. “Back at the club during that Truth or Dare game?”
He let out a low laugh. “Way earlier than that.”
“Huh?”
“Back when I was working part-time as a haunted house NPC. I was playing a beggar that day—covered in dirt and looking like an absolute mess. You got scared half to death and threw yourself right into my arms. Anyone else would’ve steered a mile clear of a filthy beggar, but you were different. You were trembling like a leaf, yet you put on this brave hero act, anxiously asking if I was okay, and even pulled out a wet wipe to gently clean the grime off my face.”
I stared, digging deep through my memory. Ah, I remember now! It was during our freshman year. In the haunted house, someone stepped on my foot, sending me crashing right into an NPC. Because it was pitch-black, I thought the fake blood on his face was real blood caused by the collision, so I burst into tears and feverishly pulled out wet wipes to clean him off. Afterward, racked with guilt, I secretly paid the haunted house staff a thousand yuan in “medical bills.”
Who could have guessed that my clueless thousand yuan happened to save him from a desperate financial crisis, giving him just enough to pay his tuition so he wouldn’t be expelled?
Fate truly works in unbelievable, miraculous ways!
After marveling at the coincidence, a wave of nostalgia for the future hit me, and I let out a soft sigh. “Hubby… I miss our precious daughter so much.”
“Mommy… uppy!”
That familiar, adorable toddler lisp chirped right in my ear. Startled, I shot straight up like a landed fish.
Wait, the surroundings changed again? A sun-drenched bedroom, lush green branches swaying outside the window in a cool breeze. Had I… transmigrated back to the present?
My little daughter was sucking her thumb, blinking her big, round, sparkling eyes up at me. “Mommy, hold me!”
My heart melted into a puddle on the spot, and I scrambled to scoop the milky little softie into my arms. Right on cue, a tall man wearing an apron walked in from the kitchen:
“Honey, you’re awake? Ningning, did you sneak in to disturb Mommy’s sleep again?”
It was the mature, fully grown version of my husband!
I nodded in a daze. “Wait, was I asleep for a really long time?”
He chuckled, walking over to ruffle my hair softly. “You bet. You went out drinking with your besties yesterday, came home, and passed out for thirteen hours straight.”
Turns out only a single night had passed in this world. It felt utterly miraculous. My gaze flicked over to his right ear.
Huh? Where’s his hearing aid?
Startled, I hurriedly placed my daughter on the bed, lunged forward, and ripped open his dress shirt to inspect his toned waist. Wait, the surgical scar vanished too?!
Instinctively catching my wrist, he stroked it softly in doting affection, his cheeks flushing with a faint blush. “Honey… stop fooling around, our daughter is watching.”
Oh my god… did I actually manage to rewrite the past?!
Lifting my head, I planted a loud, juicy kiss on his lips. “Hubby! I just did something mind-blowing! I transmigrated back to the past and took care of you—spoiling you rotten since college!”
He listened patiently to my ramblings, then gave my head a gentle flick. “I know.”
I went completely blank. “Wait, you actually know?!”
“Yeah. Didn’t you stick to me like glue from day one, claiming you transmigrated to take care of me? Even that silly doodle you drew back then… looked identical to our daughter now.”
I froze like stone on the spot.
Turns out, the timelines had merged into one all along.
