Chapter 5
Not long after returning to our marital home, I immediately invented an excuse about opening a new store location so I could leave early and come back late every day.
The reason? Simple: lately, Ha Shichen had been… exceptionally clingy.
Terrified I’d end up dropping dead from sheer sleep deprivation, I decided dodging him was the safest bet.
And so, half a month passed in total tranquility (at least for me).
Until one morning, while I was arranging flowers in the shop, the live comment section on my floating screen suddenly went wild:
【It’s finally happening! The side male lead and the female lead are meeting in secret!!!】
【I told you so! How could the side male lead actually fall for that white moonlight? His heart belongs to the female lead!】
…Excuse me, what?
A surge of irritation instantly flared up in my chest.
He’s married to me now, and he’s still pining after that little Lin Zhao girl?
This was a direct, blatant insult to my charm!
Without a second thought, I immediately put on my best “catching a cheater red-handed” posture.
Looking up toward the sky, I demanded: “Where are they?”
The comment section went dead silent for two seconds.
【AHHHHH! WE’VE BEEN HAUNTED BY A GHOST!!!】
【Stay calm everyone, it’s just a 2D character gaining sentience… let me go back to sleep.】
【Hehe… I totally wasn’t going to tell you they’re meeting by the park bridge near the lake~】
【Hurry up! Traffic is awful right now, the subway is way faster!】
【Female lead, please don’t mess this up, I want to see the side male lead pull off a massive reversal!】
Ignoring their chaotic babble, I pushed my way onto a crowded subway train for the very first time in my life—purely to go catch my husband in the act.
Ha Shichen, you better not disappoint me, or else—
I rushed to the scene in a rage, only to find neither of them had even arrived yet.
Left with no choice, I sat on a park bench for over half an hour, wrapping a silk scarf over my head following the comments’ genius “stealth disguise” advice.
Before long, the two figures finally showed up.
Lin Zhao looked at him with eyes brimming with tragic sorrow: “I’m so sorry, Shichen. It was all my stubbornness that dragged you into this mess. I know everything you’ve done was for my sake.”
Ha Shichen looked at her silently: “Do you genuinely feel sorry for me?”
“Of course I do!”
“Then could you do me a favor?”
“Just say the word, I’ll agree to anything!” Lin Zhao promised, tears glistening in her eyes.
Ha Shichen gave a deadpan, serious nod: “My wife has been a bit cold to me lately. Could you do me a favor and hang around her a bit more to stir things up?”
Lin Zhao: ?
The comments went completely numb: 【Bro, what on earth…】
She froze in place for a few seconds, letting out a stiff, forced laugh: “Shichen, I… I don’t quite get what you mean.”
The corner of his lips curved up slightly, though his eyes remained ice-cold: “Can’t do it? Fine, let’s switch to something else—stop coming around to bother my wife and me. Got it?”
Lin Zhao suddenly panicked: “Ha Shichen! I saved your life! How can you treat me like this?!”
He let out a soft laugh: “Has the Ha family not paid you enough in generous compensation?”
Panic flickered across her eyes, and she fell instantly silent.
Ha Shichen turned on his heel to leave.
Behind him, Lin Zhao let out a shattered, hysterical screech:
“No wonder you calculated every single move so meticulously—you were already in love with Qiao Sheng all along! Does she even know that you were the one who orchestrated Lu Tsewei abandoning the wedding to run after me?!”
【!!!】
【Holy crap! I thought the side male lead was just an innocent victim, turns out he’s the final boss!】
【Who said quiet, nice guys don’t have scheming mind games?!】
【Hey, White Moonlight! Stop playing dead and say something already!!!】
I pointed a finger at my own nose: Are you guys talking to me?
Sorry to burst your bubble, but as long as someone puts in this much effort specifically for me, I don’t give a damn about a little scheming—
…as long as he doesn’t cheat on me.
I stood up and brushed off my skirt. Time to head home and pretend I was never here.
If he really liked me all along… why on earth did he reject me in the first place?
Opening Ha Shichen’s social media account, I scrolled through his friend list until I located a close buddy of his from his study-abroad days in England.
I sent a message over first:
【Hi, this is Qiao Sheng. I was wondering if you’re free to attend my wedding with Ha Shichen?】
A reply popped up a moment later:
【Holy shit, it really is you! That kid finally got his absolute dream wish!】
Got his dream wish?
Pretending to be completely nonchalant, I probed further, and his friend ended up bursting wide open like a burst water pipe.
He spilled everything—how Ha Shichen had memorized my entire class schedule, constantly engineering “coincidences” just to parade around in front of me like a peacock showing off its tail feathers.
【Oh right, word of advice—he has this locked notebook. I caught a glimpse once and the pages were packed with your name. He practically tackled me to snatch it back so nobody could see it.】
【Hehe, consider this my wedding gift to you. Just don’t tell him I snitched!】
The comment section had mentioned that notebook before.
So that was where the clue was hidden.
Relying on the comments’ omniscient viewpoint, I easily tracked Ha Shichen’s current location.
Taking advantage of the fact that he hadn’t made it home yet, I snuck into the study and quickly located the notebook.
The password?
I tried my birthday.
Click. It unlocked.
A smug smirk touched my lips… but the second I flipped it open, my smile froze solid.
Inside was a detailed, comprehensive log of every single guy I had ever dated, complete with a psychological breakdown of their personalities.
And at the very end—a master synthesis of all their best traits to “self-upgrade.”
In other words, he had painstakingly remolded himself into my ultimate dream guy.
A scheme this deep… was honestly—
So damn hot!
Wait a minute, how did he even know about that particular bedroom preference of mine?
Good lord, my face was starting to burn.
Just then, the automated voice chimed near the front door: “Welcome home.”
Ha Shichen’s footsteps drew closer with every second.
Catching sight of the open study door, his steps faltered.
He looked up, and our eyes locked.
Holding the notebook, I kept my tone completely calm: “Care to explain yourself?”
Ha Shichen froze dead in his tracks.
His face turned as ghost-white as if every drop of blood had been drained from his body.
It took a agonizing moment before he managed to choke out: “You… you know everything?”
I nodded.
The rims of his eyes turned bright red as he lowered his head in utter misery.
“I just wanted you to notice me.”
“Fine. Then why did you reject me when I confessed to you back then?”
“Because you once said… ‘once I get something, I stop liking it.’ I was terrified you’d feel that way about me too… I’m sorry.”
The comment section boiled over instantly:
【Ohoho, they’re finally having a massive blowout!】
【Basically, the White Moonlight is low-key… toxic, huh? No wonder the side male lead had to pull out a full-combo entrapment strategy!】
Me: Nonsense, total clickbait!
Then it hit me… I actually had said those exact words before.
Back then, every date I went on was such an absolute trainwreck that I had lost all faith in romance:
The handsome guys were players, the polite ones loved to lecture, and the “good boys” were blatantly immature with clear motives.
After a string of failures, I threw romantic love out the window and resigned myself to an arranged marriage.
Wanting to save face, when someone asked, I blurted out: “Once I get someone, I lose interest anyway.”
Who could have guessed those careless words would fall right into the ears of someone who took them to heart!
I let out a sigh, preparing to explain—
But the moment an alarm chimed on his phone, Ha Shichen reacted as if he’d spotted a wild predator, scrambling to bolt out the door in sheer panic.
Me: ????
The comments collectively enlightened me:
【Bro is terrified she’s going to hit him with a breakup talk!】
【The side male lead is actively executing his ‘make the White Moonlight physically incapable of leaving me’ strategy!】
【That logic is terrifying, but damn if it isn’t completely accurate!】
Me: …What am I supposed to soothe him for? It’s not like I’m the one with a guilty conscience!
So I headed back to the bedroom and slept like a baby.
Waking up the next morning, I listened to the comments narrating: “Ha Shichen spent the entire night sitting on the planter downstairs, crying his eyes out.”
