Chapter 23

Su Ran stumbled blindly as she bolted out of Feng Bai’s corporate office, completely oblivious to the startled looks of passersby. Su Niao and Feng Bai were absolute monsters! She had honestly thought Su Niao was nothing more than an innocent little harmless bunny, but the girl was just as ruthless!
They were both straight-up devils disguised as human beings!
Just as she finally caught her breath, a shadow fell over her. Several imposing, suit-clad bodyguards blocked her path. Paralyzed with fear, Su Ran spun around to flee, but before she could take a single step, strong hands clamped down on her arms.
“Who are you?!” Su Ran shrieked, thrashing frantically in their grip. “What do you want from me?! Did Feng Bai send you? Is this Feng Bai’s doing?!”
“Mr. Feng instructed us to escort you out of the country,” one of the bodyguards replied coldly. Without another word, they tossed her into the back of a black sedan and sped off toward the airport.
A strange, hollow calm suddenly washed over Su Ran. Being shipped overseas was a hell of a lot better than being murdered in cold blood by Feng Bai. At least she got to keep her life. Tears of bitter regret welled in her eyes and spilled down her cheeks…
If only I hadn’t plotted against Su Hang… If only I hadn’t burned every single bridge with him… would things have turned out differently?
She would never know.
All she knew now was the suffocating weight of her own regret.
With Su Ran and Fu Xizhou permanently scrubbed from their lives, peace and happiness returned to Su Niao and Feng Bai’s world.
Su Hang never brought up Su Ran’s name again, acting as if she had never existed in the first place. Yet he still couldn’t bring himself to like Feng Bai, treating the young man like a bitter enemy who had stolen his most prized possession.
Every time Su Hang looked like he was about to blow a fuse at Feng Bai, Wen Jiu would chime in with a quiet reminder, and just like that, Su Hang would instantly deflate and behave himself.
He understood the cold, hard logic.
If he went around picking fights with Feng Bai, his precious daughter’s heart would break. And when her heart broke, he’d be the one wallowing in misery right along with her. At the end of the day, he was the only one who suffered.
Still, a man could only swallow so much indignation before he blew his top.
That breaking point arrived sooner than expected.
One morning, Su Hang happened to wake up an hour earlier than usual. Stepping into the hallway, he caught Feng Bai carrying Su Niao out of the guest bedroom, bridal-style. It didn’t take a genius to figure out she had spent the entire night in there with him. The three of them froze, staring at each other in utter shock.
War was officially declared.
A volcanic surge of rage erupted in Su Hang’s chest, spreading with uncontrollable force.
Unable to hold it in a second longer, Su Hang demanded that Feng Bai put Su Niao down immediately. The moment her feet touched the ground, Su Hang threw a wild, fury-fueled punch right at Feng Bai’s face, fully intent on tearing the kid limb from limb.
Su Niao panicked and rushed in to pull her father off, but Su Hang was out of his mind with rage. Realizing she couldn’t hold him back, she sprinted upstairs to get Wen Jiu.
By the time order was restored, Feng Bai was left nursing a fresh bruise on his face, while Su Hang only suffered a sore knuckle, since Feng Bai, naturally, hadn’t dared to throw a single punch in return.
No matter how brave he was, he wasn’t about to beat up his future father-in-law.
Watching Su Niao fuss over the bruise on Feng Bai’s face with tears in her eyes, Su Hang felt his blood pressure spike all over again.
Yet after that explosive morning, he never dared lay a finger on Feng Bai again.
Because when all was said and done, he was still the only one left suffering in the end.
God, his life was hard…
Feng Bai stayed at the Su estate for a little while longer.
When the new semester kicked off and Su Niao headed back to university, Feng Bai moved out and signed a lease on an apartment right near her campus. Naturally, Su Niao moved in with him, using the convenient commute as her official excuse for ditching the dorms.
Su Hang grumbled under his breath, but he ultimately had no choice but to accept it in bitter silence. He didn’t want to see Feng Bai and Su Niao glued to each other every single day anyway, though not knowing what they were up to behind closed doors drove him crazy.
Wen Jiu eventually sat Su Hang down and gave him a comforting reality check, letting him in on her prior conversation with Feng Bai: until Su Niao officially crossed the graduation stage, Feng Bai wouldn’t cross any major lines.
Only then did Su Hang let out a sigh of relief, his foul mood finally lifting.
Su Niao was immensely popular on campus.
To make matters worse, or better, depending on who you asked. Feng Bai had left his mark on her neck one evening, leaving a few indisputable hickeys in plain sight.
Su Niao: “!!!”
Within a few days, the swarm of guys trying to ask Su Niao out shrunk dramatically. Seeing how effective his silent territorial display was, Feng Bai doubled down.
For an entire month straight, he made his presence unmissably clear on campus, effectively wiping out every single one of Su Niao’s suitors. Soon enough, the entire university knew that the school beauty had a fiancé, and that her fiancé was a ridiculously handsome alumnus. They were the ultimate power couple.
By the time Su Niao reached her senior year, any clueless freshmen who dared ask about her were quickly set straight by the upperclassmen.
Freshman guy: “…Sorry to bother you!”
So she’s totally off-limits!
Surprisingly, Su Hang stopped throwing his daily tantrums over the arrangement.
Wen Jiu: “…” She almost wanted to call him an idiot. Did he really think that after graduation, his daughter wouldn’t belong to Feng Bai anyway?
From that point on, Su Niao and Feng Bai slipped into a sweet, effortless rhythm together.
Feng Bai was attentive to a fault, never overlooking the smallest detail of her daily life. Whenever he sensed a new admirer hovering around her, he would personally show up to walk her home from class every single day.
Of course, he would never openly admit that his jealousy was getting the best of him.
Su Niao teased him endlessly about it. “I literally tell them I have a boyfriend, and that he’s my fiancé who already proposed! But they just won’t take my word for it…”
Feng Bai: “…” They don’t believe you? Fine. I’ll just show up every afternoon until it sinks in.
“Hello, Senior Sister!”
“Wishing you and Senior Brother a lifetime of absolute bliss!”
One glance at the guy was all it took for everyone to realize: this man is strictly off-limits!
The very moment Su Niao handed in her final graduation thesis, Feng Bai hit the ground running with wedding preparations. “HURRY” was practically written in bold across his forehead! He was dying to bring her home as his official wife. Looking at her every day without being able to fully claim her had been pure torture, and he desperately wanted that marriage certificate in hand.
Wen Jiu happily got everything ready to send her daughter off, utterly thrilled with her future son-in-law.
As for Su Hang, after letting out one final dramatic sigh, he threw himself into handing out wedding invitations with a proud smile. Watching his daughter grow up and finally step into the next chapter of her life filled his heart with warmth. Truth be told, he was beyond satisfied with Feng Bai. Even if his pride kept him from saying it out loud, he had to admit that no one in the world suited his daughter better.
Feng Bai kept every single promise he had ever made to Su Niao.
His future belonged entirely to her.
In just two short years, he had built a business empire from scratch, rising straight to the top of his industry with no signs of slowing down.
The world hailed him as a boy wonder, a rare business genius, but only he knew that the sole engine driving his relentless ambition was the girl by his side.
Without her, the Feng Bai of today wouldn’t exist.
On the day of the wedding, delicate white rose petals drifted through the air like pure, beautiful snow. Smiling down at her, Feng Bai slid the wedding band onto her finger, this time, the diamond caught the sunlight, sparkling with dazzling brilliance.
Su Niao looked up into Feng Bai’s eyes, her expression utterly sincere. “Feng Bai, I really, truly love you!”
He had already walked every mile to meet her where she was; all she had left to do was confess her love to him over and over again!
Feng Bai gazed down at her with unreserved devotion, a soft smile gracing his lips. “I think my love for you might still be a little bit more.”
Hand in hand, they stepped through the gates of marriage at the absolute prime of their lives.
