Corrupting the Sacred Monks

Claiming His Bride

Chapter 4: Claiming His Bride

Before the online storm had even settled, I was forced to face a whole new hurricane right inside the hospital room.
My mother was staring at me with deep suspicion, and Mrs. Jiang had just “coincidentally” popped in for a visit seconds prior.
Knowing I couldn’t hide it any longer, I resorted to my ultimate weapon—shameless lying.
“Look at him, Mom! My husband is so impossibly handsome, I practically won the lottery! Honestly, it was love at first sight for him. He pursued me like crazy, basically begging me to marry him…”
I was halfway through my passionate monologue when I noticed the utterly bizarre look on my mother’s face as she stared toward the doorway.
I froze and turned my head…
Jiang Yufan was standing right there.
Without missing a beat, he chimed in smoothly, “Mom, everything Ranran said is completely true. It was love at first sight for me, and I simply had to make her my wife. Right, my lady?”
My throat went bone dry. All I could manage was a strained, awkward chuckle. “…Yup. Exactly.”
After a brief private talk, I stepped back into the room to find that Jiang Yufan had already seamlessly transitioned to calling my mother “Mom.”
My mother looked beyond thrilled, warmly placing my hand into his. Then came the fatal blow.
“It’s been three years now… when are you two giving me a grandchild?”
I nearly jumped out of my skin. “Mom! I’m still an active actress!”
My mother turned to Jiang Yufan, waiting expectantly for an answer.
He smiled, a soft, gentle, yet deeply meaningful look entering his eyes as he looked down at me. “Everything… is up to my lady.”
My mother nodded frantically, her face beaming with pure satisfaction.
As for me? Facing the combined force of my own mother and this formerly saintly husband who was rapidly falling into the mortal realm, I had only one logical strategic move left: Run!
After hiding out on a film set for a whole month, I finally had to return to the Jiang estate because the fifteenth was tomorrow. Just remembering the ridiculous “love at first sight” story I had spun right in front of the man himself made me want to dig a hole and bury myself alive.
The moment I walked into my bedroom, however, I froze.
The entire wardrobe of nightwear had been replaced. Gone were my mother-in-law’s “so skimpy I should call the police” ensembles. In their place hung an array of elegant, sophisticated, yet undeniably alluring silk loungewear.
The butler offered a knowing smile. “The Young Master ordered the entire wardrobe replaced, Young Mistress. Not knowing your exact preference, he bought one of every style.”
I waved my hands frantically. “No need to change them! They’re all great!”
Are you kidding me? Change them back to those sheer strips of fabric? It seemed my last choice of attire had successfully pushed Jiang Yufan right to his absolute limit.
That evening, instead of guiding me toward the shrine, the butler led me straight to the doors of Jiang Yufan’s private bedroom suite.
I was still hesitating outside when the door swung open.
He had just stepped out of the shower, damp hair clinging to his forehead. He radiated a lazy, undoing charm that was frankly unfair.
This was my very first time stepping into his private sanctuary. The bedroom was minimalist to the point of feeling stark and cold, but the words leaving his lips instantly made the air scorchingly hot.
“My lady, surely you’ve noticed by now… my heart has moved.”
I stammered, backing up a step. “We’ve been married for three years… why only now…”
Jiang Yufan closed the distance, trapping me against the wall. “My grandmother placed those prayer beads on my wrist years ago. She told me that the day my heart truly awakened, the string would break on its own.”
He leaned in, his dark eyes ablaze with an intensity I couldn’t escape. “For three years, I hid in the shrine, trying to escape my own feelings. But the moment I saw the news about you and Lam Shuofan… I knew I couldn’t run anymore.”
His voice dropped to a low, breathless whisper against my skin. “The beads snapped. And my heart… is completely undone.”
In the charged silence of the room, my own heart hammered wildly against my ribs. Rising onto my tiptoes, I wrapped my arms around his neck, whispering against his lips, “I already agreed to your mother’s five-year deal. Now… it’s your turn to put in the work.”
A low, affectionate chuckle rumbled in his chest. Scooping me up into his arms effortlessly, he turned toward the bed.
“At your service, my lady.”
The next morning, I practically dragged my aching body down to the living room, only to find my mother-in-law and the butler hunched together over a massive dictionary.
“…Or maybe Wanwan? I always wanted to name a daughter that, but I ended up with a son instead…”
Hearing that, I nearly turned around to bolt back upstairs. The psychological pressure in this house was heavier than an action movie stunt!
Once my new film wrapped up, my mother was discharged from the hospital and rapidly became sworn sisters with my mother-in-law.
The two of them dragged me on a relentless shopping spree, but when I finally returned home that evening, I walked into a sight that took my breath away.
The entire grand hall of the mansion had been transformed into a breathtaking, flower-draped wedding venue.
Jiang Yufan stood in the center, dressed in a sharp tuxedo. Dropping to one knee before me, he took my hand with absolute sincerity.
“My lady… will you marry me?”
I let out a soft laugh, teasing him gently. “Don’t you know that sentence is grammatically incorrect? We’re already married.”
He slipped a brilliant diamond ring onto my finger, a radiant, unconditional smile breaking across his face.
“It’s not incorrect. For the rest of my life, you will always be my bride. For all the years to come… please go easy on me, my lady.”
— THE END —
